GAZEBO RESTORATION

We recently had the privilege of remodeling an historic garden gazebo for Lighthouse For The Blind, a manufacturing organization that employs and offers resources for the blind and deafblind in the Seattle community. This project was funded by the Dupar Foundation, and it holds great significance for the blind and deafblind community in Seattle. The gazebo is an integral part of the garden that Ethel Dupar, the founding patron, pioneered. Her vision was to create a resource and respite for the blind and deafblind community, as well as the workers at the lighthouse. When Ethel’s granddaughter reached out to us about the restoration of its central gathering structure, a modern and sleek mid-century gazebo, we were very excited.

The garden itself is a remarkable space. It has been designed to be wheelchair accessible, allowing individuals with mobility challenges to fully enjoy its beauty. With over 60 fragrant flower varieties, the garden provides a sensory experience for all visitors. Additionally, an audio walking tour has been incorporated, enabling visually impaired individuals to explore and learn about the different plants and features. The garden also offers various seating areas, providing a tranquil environment for relaxation and contemplation.

“The purpose of architecture is to shelter and enhance man’s life on earth and to fulfill his belief in the nobility of his existence.” – Eero Saarinen
